Peter Woodward
Deacon and Treasurer
Born during the Battle of Britain. Peter was sent out to Southern Rhodesia as a child migrant in 1949. He met and married Merle in 1963. They were both born again in 1976 and became members of the newly formed Church of the Nazarene where Peter became Church Treasurer from the start due to his banking background and held this position until 2003 when the family had to leave Zimbabwe due to the precarious economic situation prevailing at that time.
Their Church in Zimbabwe started with a small congregation of 30 people but grew to about 250 members. Within a short period of 5 years land was bought, a church built and was paid off in full. Their family consisted of two daughters Gail, the oldest went to her Lord in 1995 (aged 29) and Michelle who married Mark in 1990 and had 3 children. Merle and Peter are now the great grandparents of two lovely children.
Peter & Merle joined the Woodlands Evangelical Church in Allestree as soon as they arrived in England and were part of a church plant in Oakwood where the family resided. They left Woodlands in 2010 to become members of DBC. Peter was appointed as a Deacon in 2011 and took over the responsibility of Treasurer at the beginning of 2017 following the retirement of the former Treasurer.
